The World Challenge Cape to Cape Part 1

Discover this passed adventure

The World Challenge Cape to Cape is a three-part, self-drive expedition from the North Cape to the Cape of Good Hope. Each part runs about five weeks with short breaks in between. We keep the group small (max. 14 teams), drive 200–400 km per day, and let the route lead—iconic stretches mixed with quiet backroads and sensible rest days in key cities.

You drive your own car. From the North Cape to Bucharest is doable in a regular car, from Bucharest onwards a 4WD is required. Two organization vehicles with a four-person crew travel with the group (medical training and a technician on board). We handle scouting, shipping between legs, and border formalities, so you can focus on the drive. Hotels range from simple where the route demands it to standout stays on rest days.

The car

The first stage, from Alta (North Cape) to Bucharest, can be driven with a regular car. We avoid technical off-road tracks here – those will come later. From Bucharest onwards, into the southern parts of Turkey, a 4WD becomes essential. Think of a Land Rover Defender or similar.

If you need advice or support in preparing your car, we are happy to assist. From guidance on the right setup to trusted partners who can help get your vehicle ready, we can connect you with the right expertise.

Accommodation

On the World Challenge Cape to Cape, the route always comes first. Along the way we select the best available hotels. In cities or on rest days – for example in Istanbul or Cappadocia – you can expect memorable, carefully chosen stays.

In more remote areas, where the focus is on the landscape and the driving experience, accommodations may be simpler. The balance ensures comfort without compromising the essence of the journey.
