The World Challenge Stage 6 2019

The line ran Dar es Salaam to Arusha and Amboseli, then west through Kenya and Uganda to the lakes and gorilla country of Rwanda. We continued along Lake Tanganyika to Kigoma and Kipili, turned through Mbeya into Malawi for the lakeshore, crossed to Zambia for South Luangwa and Lusaka, reached Victoria Falls, then threaded Botswana to Maun, entered Namibia for Windhoek and the Atlantic dunes, and finished via Springbok to Cape Town.

Hotels were selected for character and location, from Mweya Safari Lodge and Royal Livingstone to well placed lodges and simple overnights where remoteness asked for it. Distances averaged about 390 kilometres per day, with rest days spaced for recovery and vehicle checks. Optional highlights included gorilla trekking, an Okavango flight, and dune driving.
