NorCape 2008

We set a winter line from Copenhagen via Oslo to the Arctic, swapping Dutch winter tires for Scandinavian ice rubber and, where allowed, studs. From Oslo the road ran north through blowing snow and over the Arctic Circle to Bodø, then by the afternoon ferry across to the Lofoten. After a quiet rest day—RIB boats into Trollfjord, stockfish soup, a first glimpse of the northern lights—we turned toward Alta for the escorted convoy to the North Cape, where gale winds and drifting snow made the final kilometres feel like an expedition.

The return threaded Lapland and Swedish high plains to Borgafjäll, then dropped to Stockholm for the finish. It was real winter driving: narrow iced roads, tunnels with storm doors, changing grip, and long, bright days when the sun broke through. Small group, clear briefings, offline roadbook navigation, and support working in the background kept the rhythm measured while the landscapes did the talking.
