Stage 4 linked the Caribbean to the Río de la Plata over roughly 16,000 kilometres in about 32 days, with the Andes as a constant line on the horizon. We assembled in Cartagena and drove south through rainforest, high plateaus, and desert before closing in Buenos Aires.
From Cartagena via Medellín and Popayán to Ecuador for Quito and Cuenca, then into Peru for Ayacucho, the Sacred Valley, and Lake Titicaca. We entered Bolivia for the Yungas road and the Salar de Uyuni, crossed to Chile’s San Pedro de Atacama, and re-entered Argentina for Ruta 40, Cafayate, the lake districts, El Calafate and Perito Moreno, Patagonia’s long roads, and the final arc north to Buenos Aires.
